I’m sure all foodies can understand my excitement when I heard a Marco Pierre White Steakhouse had opened in town.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the legend that is Marco Pierre White, he was dubbed as the first celebrity chef of the UK restaurant scene, and is also the youngest chef ever to receive 3 Michelin stars – he even trained Gordon Ramsay!
Of course, Marco is not working in the kitchen in Edinburgh, as the restaurant has been opened as a franchise in the Hilton Edinburgh Carlton, however, that certainly doesn’t mean the food (and location) wasn’t fantastic.
The hotel itself has recently undergone a complete refurbishment, and this is instantly noticeable as soon as you walk through the door. Everything is brand new so really catches the eye, and you are greeted with the most wonderful grand staircase. It’s at the top of the stairs that you will find “Marco’s chair” and the new MPW Steakhouse & Grill.
I visited for lunch and had the Roast rump of lamb à la Dijonnaise haricot verts, potatoes Dauphinoise and roasting juices – fabulous!! Dauphinoise is my most favourite side ever! The lamb was cooked perfectly and was wonderfully presented. My friend had the chicken which also looked delicious and had me doubting my choice… only for a second :).
The menu itself had many fantastic choices aside from steaks including baked camembert, yellowfin tuna steak, and fish curry. All extremely tempting to me!
The restaurant has a modern luxury feel to it, with edgy black and white framed pictures of Marco dressing the walls – I absolutely loved it, it was right up my street!
The steakhouse isn’t well sign-posted from the street as it is on the first floor, therefore, making it easy to miss – but I can assure you, this is not a place you want to forget about. It is definitely worth booking a table today to enjoy all things fiery and full of life – just like Marco!
