I thought for a long time about what I wanted my first post to be, and came to the conclusion that I wanted to start on a high – the highest 24/7 restaurant in London, to be precise.
The jaw-dropping Duck & Waffle is situated on the 40th floor of the Heron Tower – height phobias beware, the glass lift ascended so fast my ears popped!
My colleague and I were in the city to run a conference that day, but the temptation to visit this famous eatery was too much for us to resist, so our alarms went off at 6am and we were gazing at The Gherkin and Tower Bridge by 7.
We got lucky and the restaurant was very quiet (which I can only imagine is a rarity), and we were ushered to the best table in the house.
After getting over the initial excitement of dining in the clouds, we took time to look over the menu which had a playful take on British & European Cuisine, and debated some of the options – Smoked Salmon Royale, Colombian eggs and Duck & Waffle (obviously)! My colleague opted for the Colombian Eggs which were outstanding (I managed to steal a forkful!) and I had smoked salmon, poached eggs and field mushrooms.
As we were working that day, we unfortunately couldn’t take advantage of the tempting breakfast beverages that were on offer, including Kir Royals, Mimosas and Bloody Marys.
Visiting the 40th floor of the Heron Tower truly creates a memorable experience as well as a decadent dining affair. I was disappointed that we couldn’t stay longer, but that gives me a great excuse to return in the future, and the best part…. You can dine at Duck and Waffle 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Midnight snacks never looked so good!
